Configure le_dns on Android
The easiest setup — one setting on Android 9+
Android 9 introduced Private DNS — system-wide encrypted DNS over TLS with a single setting. This is the simplest and most complete DNS setup available on any mobile platform. Why change your DNS?
Android 9+ — Private DNS (recommended)
- Open Settings → Network & internet (exact label varies by manufacturer)
- Tap Private DNS (or Advanced → Private DNS)
- Select Private DNS provider hostname
- Enter:
ledns.eu - Tap Save
That’s it. Android will automatically use DNS over TLS on port 853 for all connections — Wi-Fi and mobile data — with no further configuration needed.
Older Android / Per-network DNS
For Android 8 and below, or if you want to set DNS per Wi-Fi network:
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi
- Long press your network → Modify network (or tap the gear icon)
- Tap Advanced options
- Change IP settings from DHCP to Static
- Set DNS 1 to
51.75.96.82 - Set DNS 2 to
51.89.95.33 - Tap Save
Note: This method only applies to the selected Wi-Fi network, does not cover mobile data, and does not encrypt your DNS queries.
Verify it works
Visit dnsleaktest.com in your browser. The DNS servers shown should be le_dns. If Private DNS is active, queries are encrypted and routed through ledns.eu.
You can also check Private DNS status by going back to Settings → Network & internet → Private DNS — it will show a connected status and the hostname if active.
